Admission for Bachelor of Fisheries Science (B.F.Sc)

Admission into the St. Devasahayam Institute of Fisheries Science and Technology is a gateway to a world-class education in the field of fisheries science and technology. Programme Outcomes

Undergraduate Programme

  • Undergraduate students will actively apply their scientific knowledge gained within classroom and laboratory settings to practical, real-world scenarios and professional work environments. They will internalize the significance of the arts, equipping themselves to excel as proficient professionals.

  • This educational journey will empower students, fostering their development as capable entrepreneurs and enabling them to secure positions across a spectrum of administrative roles within both central and state governments, as well as the non-governmental sector.

  • Furthermore, students will embrace a culture of self-directed and continual learning. They will leverage resources such as MOOCs and SWAYAM online coursesto adapt effectively to the dynamic shifts in the modern work landscape.     Semester System

    Each year is divided into two semesters. The duration of the semester is 15 weeks with six working days per week.

    Admission of students for this Academic year (2024-25) for the College of Fisheries Science, DIFST, Midalam:

    No of students to be admitted : 40 Nos
    Admission procedure:
  • Student admissions (65%) will follow TNJFU’s ( Single window system) and Tamil Nadu Government Regulations, including all Government quota

  • The Management quota (35%) will be filled according to TNJFU and Tamil Nadu Government guidelines:

    • i. Students who have applied through TNJFU’s on- line admission system only will be considered under the Management quota
    • ii. The admission of Management quota will be through On- line only (applications in any other forms will not be considered)
  • Course Fee: Affordable; Govt Approved Fees.

    Application Procedure

    Prospective students can apply to the institute through an online application portal. The application will be undertaken as per the guidelines of Tamil Nadu Dr.J.Jayalalithaa Fisheries University.

    Eligibility

    • Candidates should have completed their secondary education (10 +2) or its equivalent from a recognized educational board or institution.
    • Candidates studied in both English and Tamil Medium are eligible.
    • Candidates studied in Group I (M, P, c & B); Group II Vocational Fisheries; and Group II A (P, C, B & z) are eligible
    • All quota as per the Govt norms will be scrupulously adopted.

    Job Oppurtunities for Fisheries Graduates

    • All entry level Officer positions at the State Fisheries Depts
    • Scientists at Central Fisheries Insitutes (CIBA, CIFA, CMFRO, CIFT, CIFRI, etc)
    • Lectures at State Fisheires Universities / Colleges

    • Banks - NABARD, etc
    • Private sector - Farms, Hatcheries, Feed Mills, Processing plants, etc.

    Management Quota

    Prospective students interested in the management quota need to apply through admission portal application form specifically designated for management quota admissions.

    • The college is Affiliated with the Tamil Nadu Dr.J.Jayalalithaa Fisheries University (TNJFU), Nagapattinam ( USO NO. 774;09/09/23).
    • The college management has signed a MoU ( dt.14.09.2023)with the TNJFU for manging the college.
    • The college's development adheres to the guidelines set by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi, and TNJFU, Nagapattinam.
    • ICAR Accreditation is expected upon the graduation of the First batch (2026- 27).
    • Graduates will have the wider job opportunities as those from TNJFU.
    • The college will maintain a Teacher-Student ratio of 1:10 or less than 10 as per ICAR requirements.
