Dear Students and Faculty Members,

We have reached a significant milestone in our journey of imparting Fisheries Science education to the youth of our country. Our aim is to equip them with professional skills for a successful career in fisheries and aquaculture. We are delighted to announce the completion of the first semester at our newly established college, situated by the picturesque shores of the Arabian Sea in Kanyakumari district.

Our dedicated team of newly recruited teachers across six departments has shown immense enthusiasm in delivering both theoretical knowledge and practical training. Emphasis has been placed on hands-on experience to ensure that our students are well-prepared for their future roles.

In this short period, we have conducted four Capacity Building programs sponsored by the NFDB,GoI and jointly organised a virtual event with MANAGE,GoI collectively training over 200 fishers and others. As a result of these initiatives, we secured a grant from the Government of India to set up a Marine Ornamental Fish hatchery and rearing facility on our campus. Additionally, the college management has approved funding for the construction of a state-of-the-art 'RAS-based Feed Testing Wet Lab Facility,' which will serve both student education and collaborative research endeavors with aquaculture firms.Through capacity building programs conducted in ten coastal villages near our college, we have facilitated the initiation of various fisheries and aquaculture startups in those communities.

Furthermore, efforts have been made to enhance our Fisheries Processing Technology Department by introducing a 'Marine Culinary Workshop' with FSSAI Certification and establishing a 'Food Analysis Lab'.

In collaboration with the Kottar Society for Social Service(KSSS) of the Diocese, we are also working on establishing an Off-campus facility called the 'Gille Marine Products & Skill Development Centre (GPSDC)' at Muttom. This initiative aims to provide training opportunities for fishers in the district across different fisheries activities and also to benefit our students.

We are excited about the progress we've made and look forward to continuing our efforts in shaping a bright future for our students and the fisheries sector of this region.

Best regards,

Prof. Sugantham Felix
